Sal's Cottage

Sal, age 9, is a happy kid even in the hardest moments, and loves ice cream sandwiches, rocket ships, stars and planets, and anything related to the ocean. In addition to genetic and neurological disorders, he also lives with autism and finds special comfort being cozy, tucked-in spaces with blankets and pillows. Sal's wish was to have a sensory playhouse where he could enjoy quiet time to unwind while enjoying swinging and sensory activities. Harbor Builders, a long-time wish-granting partner, enthusiastically met with the family to learn what was meaningful and important for Sal and brought the vision of an underwater themed sensory playhouse, equipped with a porthole and custom whale wall art, to life. The team worked throughout the summer prepping the space, building, and finishing the playhouse all the while connecting with Sal and his brother and giving them opportunity to "help" with the big project. Sal's mom shared, "Sal's new playhouse is amazing. It makes Sal so happy to enjoy time in there while doing puzzles."
